One of Washington County's newest towns is Apple Valley, incorporated Oct 14, 2004. Apple Valley is located in a small valley about 12 miles East of Hurricane. The drive on HWY 59 is a 2,000 ft clash of clans triche climb to 4,700 ft. The scenery is spectacular withZion National Park in the background along with MountSmithsonian, CanaanMountain and Little Creek Mesa framing the area. The temperature is about 10 degrees cooler than Hurricane and St. George year round.
There are approximately 300 homes in Apple Valley, with a growth rate of approximately 10 new homes per year. There are many new subdivision developments currently being engineered for the area. The homes range from single wide trailers, modular, to the custom built and spacious. All residential lots in the existing subdivisions or phases are zoned one acre and are allowed to have horses
Privately owned water companies currently service the area. There are many private wells that are used for irrigation. Homes are heated with propane, wood burning stoves or electricity. For best television reception you need a satellite dish. The only servicing telephone company at this time is South Central Communications.
All calls to Hurricane and St. George are long distance. Calls to Colorado City, Arizona, are local. For cellular service South Central Communications gives you the best reception but there are others that can be received in certain areas. Internet service can be provided through South Central Communications or TKS Hi-speed internet. A Chevron gas station is located on Hwy 59 just after entering Apple Valley. They have regular and diesel fuel and semi parking. They carry a variety of miscellaneous household items and snack foods; they also have a food court that serves a variety of hot food and sandwiches.
